Branded Merchandise Helps Build Your Business by Elaine Fogel
Over 52% of participants reported having a more favorable impression of the advertiser since receiving a promotional item. That's an excellent return on your investment. Over 76% of participants could recall the name of the advertiser on the promotional product that they received in the past 12 months. 55% of participants generally kept their promotional products for more than a year.
Here are some tips on buying promotional products: 1. There are infinite options in branded merchandise in a multitude of price ranges. It’s best to discuss your needs with an account executive who distributes branded merchandise from a variety of suppliers. S/he can make recommendations within your budget. 2. Ensure that the items you order can be stored securely at your site and are easy to fulfill or ask your supplier about outsourced fulfillment. 3. Have your logo imprinted or embroidered on all your promotional items in the correct Pantone colors. 4. Try to purchase items that will have practical use to your market segments or are connected to your business in some way. 5. Try to avoid buying the cheapest items that may not be as durable. The last thing your brand needs is an item that broke or malfunctioned early in its usage. 6. Where something special is warranted, go the extra mile to show your appreciation, especially for a major client or customer or as a staff reward. It will pay off. © 2006

Branded merchandise is an excellent way to keep your business “top of mind” with your customers and prospects. In fact, in a recent Marketing Sherpa report by research analyst Hope Hopkins, over 76% said they could remember the brand name of a company that gave them a promotional item in the past year, versus 53% who could remember a TV or print ad from the past month, and only 27% who recalled an online ad. |
