About the Prez Elaine Fogel has had a passion for entrepreneurialism, branding and marketing from the time she sold a record number of chocolate bars to raise funds for her high school exchange trip to Baltimore. Her passion for nonprofit and public sector marketing began when she took on the presidency of her daughter’s pre-school and continued with many board and executive positions for local and national nonprofit organizations. Branding, marketing, business and nonprofit causes are in her blood.
Elaine’s early career gave her opportunities to take on a variety of creative outlets, all of which contributed to the marketer she is today. Whether it was marketing education to her students, captivating an audience as a singer or television show host, or engaging health-conscious gourmands with her cookbooks, she took on projects with gusto and a drive to succeed.
Elaine has served in a professional marketing capacity, helping organizations build their brands, develop their campaigns, toot their horns and grow their revenue. In these “inside” positions, she also contributed to the organizational decision-making process on matters related to revenue generation; corporate, government, and community relations; strategic planning; risk management; finance; and human resources.
For March of Dimes in Canada, she developed a segmentation strategy and new targeted marketing collateral to help the organization grow its business services revenue 17% to $20 million out of a $75 million operating budget. She conscripted comic actor, Leslie Nielsen as celebrity spokesperson for its annual campaign and produced television and radio spots with him. She helped launch new national programs with bilingual marketing materials and a public relations campaign.
For the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, she served as a key spokesperson, often interviewed on national TV and radio. Marketing the CIBC Run for the Cure, she stewarded and co-managed relationships with corporate sponsors such as Nike, Ford, Tetley Tea, and Air Canada.
For UJA Federation, she promoted a year-long series of major events involving politicians, celebrities and dignitaries, then took on marketing a $50 million campaign that included production of a launch video, brochures, ads, billboards and signage. Here, she procured Barenaked Ladies lead singer, Steven Page and baseball’s Shawn Green as celebrity spokespeople, producing a pre-game NBA and major league baseball show.
During her career, Elaine has taken on a host of projects. She has worked collaboratively with advertising agencies, PR firms, event planners, and campaign fundraisers. When the details get drilled down, she doesn’t hesitate to call on colleagues with specialized expertise, as she manages and oversees the big picture.
At the very core of Elaine’s being is her love for writing. What began at twelve winning a local songwriting contest, turned into a lifelong passion - at first, writing, producing and developing a variety of materials, on contract, for major corporate clients such as Kraft, Procter & Gamble, Nestlé Carnation, Warner-Lambert and Shopper’s Drug Mart. And then, for employers and clients - articles, newsletters, annual reports, brochures, fact sheets, Web sites, news releases, e-mails, flyers, letters, ads, and sales and fundraising materials.
Never at a loss for words, Elaine has written several articles on marketing, communications, customer service and branding. She is a senior contributor to MarketingProfs - distributed to over 280,000 marketing professionals worldwide - and its Daily Fix blog, rated in the top 25 marketing blogs, and has been a contributing writer for The Business Journal. Her articles have also appeared in Marketing News, the Stanford Social Innovation Review of the Stanford School of Business, Advancing Philanthropy, Nonprofit World, and OnPhilanthropy.
Elaine enjoys combining her education skills and experience with her marketing talents through training and workshops on branding, marketing and customer service. She chairs the Nonprofit Special Interest Group for the American Marketing Association (AMA), is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) international communications and marketing committee, a former officer of the AMA Phoenix Chapter and a board member of the AFP Greater Arizona Chapter. She is also a professional member of the National Speakers Association and a consultant member of the ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership.
Elaine launched Solutions Marketing & Consulting LLC after relocating from Toronto to Phoenix, Arizona. The company gives her the opportunity to work with many businesses and nonprofit organizations, sharing her creativity, marketing strategy, copywriting skills and right-brain ideas (that flow non-stop).
Elaine’s areas of specialty include: copywriting, marketing strategy, design and development of marketing materials, programs/services marketing, fundraising marketing, association marketing, cause-related marketing, project management, media and public relations, event marketing, advertising, customer service, training, board development and corporate/community relations.
A brand evangelist, she believes that the road to success begins with strategic marketing and a commitment to excellence. Those who want to break through the clutter, get the word out about what they do, and build their profile need a strong focus on marketing in today’s competitive landscape for attention and revenue.
Entrepreneurial and outgoing, Elaine is recognized for her experience and expertise in marketing communications and nonprofit branding. She is devoted to her family and pet Havanese dog, loves to golf and play tennis whenever she can, and adores live theater.
